Venom is an American superhero movie based on the Marvel Comics character of the same name, produced by Columbia Pictures in association with Marvel and Tencent Pictures. Distributed by Sony Pictures Releasing, it is the first movie in Sony’s Marvel Universe, adjunct to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Venom is directed by Ruben Fleischer from a screenplay by Scott Rosenberg, Jeff Pinkner, and Kelly Marcel. In Venom, journalist Brock gains superpowers after being bound to an alien symbiote whose species plans to invade Earth. After a faulty interview with the Life Foundation ruins his career, former reporter Eddie Brock’s life is in pieces. Eddie Brock who is a journalist, is trying to take down Carlton Drake, the notorious and brilliant founder of the Life Foundation. While investigating one of Drake’s experiments, Eddie’s body merges with the alien Venom — leaving him with superhuman strength and power. Twisted, dark and fueled by rage, Venom tries to control the new and dangerous abilities that Eddie finds so intoxicating.
